PPC in the Park 01-05-10

Fuelled by optimism, and leaving common sense to one side, I packed the tent into the car in the now sideways rain, and headed out to Mallory park for an over-nighter at the PPC show.   At several points I questioned if it was a good idea, especially as I only live 30 mins from Mallory, but the lure of friends BBQ and beer was too tempting, so I suck with it.

It paid off too; by the time we arrived the sun was shining and while the gale force wind made pitching a tent more like flying a kite, it was drying the place up quickly.

Some of you may recognise the yellow MK1 Escort in the corner of that pic…

Yep, my buddy Ryan’s Zetec powered, throttle bodied play car.  Following him down, I saw more of the side than the back…not that we skid on public roads officer.

Having survived the night we burned some more meat for breakfast and headed down to watch the track for a while.

I pretty much fell in love with this EF.

Yep, I’m fairly sure the session we watched was a Honda club….

The main show was in the paddock area so we took a stroll down to check it out.

Now, I’ll be honest, we didn’t stick around long as there wasn’t much that blew us away.  Maybe I’m turning into a show snob or something, but it kinda missed the mark for me.   Here’s some of the cream (in my humble opinion…)

Bike engine’d Imp.  I spotted this last week at Curborough.

The fab work was first class.  I’m hoping the rear plate means it’s road legal!

You know when I said “it kinda missed the mark”? Well this is why…

I appreciate all the work that’s gone in to them and blah, blah..but seriously, this is a PRACTICAL PERFORMANCE CAR SHOW.

I will immediately rectify this with more pictures of “that” EF

Massively honorable mention should go to my friend James Hill and his S4 Imp.  It’s well worth checking out his 27 page build thread.

All the supercharger install and carbon work is home-grown, by James, in his garage.  AMAZING.

You’ll also notice: No jubilee clips or band clamps anywhere!

So there you go; some inspirational engineering and motors, and some not so much.  Following a swift de-tent and pot noodle we rolled out (handirack in full effect).
